VORO Deck Framing FAQ

Common questions from deck builders, dealers and homeowners about VORO structural composite framing.

What is VORO?

VORO is a structural composite framing system for decks: joists, beams and posts made from fiberglass composite instead of pressure-treated lumber or steel.

Will VORO rot, rust or get termites?

VORO contains no wood fiber and no steel. In manufacturer testing it absorbs 0.6% water or less in 24 hours. See the specs page for the full test values.

What is VORO's fire rating?

In manufacturer testing VORO has a flame spread index of 25 maximum (Class A / Class 1), is self-extinguishing per ASTM D-635, and rates UL 94 V-0. Check your local code for any fire-rated construction your project requires.

Can VORO be used near saltwater or pools?

VORO has been tested against brine and saltwater, chlorine and bleach. For marine, dock or pool projects, contact us so we can review your application.

How is VORO installed?

VORO is cut and handled with common job-site tools. Contact us for fastener and connection recommendations before you build, and wear eye protection and a dust mask when cutting, as with any fiberglass product.

What sizes does VORO come in?

2x4 (1.5" x 3.5"), 2x6 (1.5" x 5.5"), 2x8 (1.5" x 7.25"), 2x10 (1.5" x 9.25"), 2x12 (1.5" x 11.25"), 6x6 (5.5" x 5.5") and 8x8 (7.25" x 7.25").

How far can VORO joists span?

It depends on the profile, load, deflection limit and joist spacing. The VORO span table is a planning guide for the 2x6 and 2x8. Your final design should be confirmed by a licensed professional or your building official.

How much does VORO weigh?

VORO has a density of 0.07 lb per cubic inch, much lighter than steel.

Where can I buy VORO?

VORO is sold through select dealers. Email sales@voro-usa.com or use the contact form and we will point you to the nearest one.

Answers are general information, not engineering advice or a warranty. Structural work should be designed or reviewed by a licensed professional and must meet local building codes.
